The RCA affirms that Christ, as the Son of God, existed eternally before the foundation of the world. The Logos (divine Word) is the agent through whom all things were created and by whom all things are sustained. Christ's pre-existence is a fundamental doctrine in Reformed theology.

Scripture testifies that Christ was with God and is God from before creation. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation, in whom all things in heaven and on earth were created and in whom all things consist. Old Testament appearances of the Angel of the Lord are understood as Christophanies—manifestations of the pre-incarnate Son.

The incarnation did not originate Christ's existence but rather his union with human nature. Throughout all ages, the Son has been active in creation and providence. This eternal pre-existence ensures his deity and grounds the coherence of trinitarian theology.
