The RCCG affirms the Protestant biblical canon of 66 books: 39 Old Testament books and 27 New Testament books. The church does not accept the deuterocanonical books (Wisdom, Sirach, Baruch, Tobit, Judith, 1-2 Maccabees, and others) as canonical Scripture. The King James Version (KJV) of the Bible is the preferred and primary translation used in RCCG worship and teaching, though other translations are acknowledged. The KJV's formal, majestic language and theological terminology are valued in RCCG tradition.

The biblical canon is understood as closed: no additional books will be added to Scripture. The 66 canonical books are the complete and sufficient revelation of God for the Church. This closed canon reflects the RCCG's evangelical Protestant identity and its rejection of Roman Catholic and Oriental Orthodox additions to the biblical canon.
