Plymouth Brethren affirm the Protestant biblical canon of 66 books (39 Old Testament, 27 New Testament). Scripture alone is the sole ultimate authority for faith and practice. Apocryphal and other extra-biblical writings are not considered canonical. The Brethren reject Roman Catholic and Orthodox additions to the canon. This 'sola scriptura' commitment was foundational to their identity and remains central today.
