Assemblies of God holds a premillennial interpretation of Revelation 20:1-6. According to this view, Christ will literally return to the earth before the thousand-year (millennial) reign. The thousand years is a literal future period during which Christ rules and Satan is bound. This premillennial position is one of the AG's distinctive eschatological markers.

The AG's Statement of Fundamental Truths affirms 'the blessed hope' of the Church — the rapture — and teaches that believers will be caught up to meet Christ in the air before (or in correlation with) the tribulation and the subsequent thousand-year reign. During the millennium, Christ will rule from Jerusalem, the righteous will reign with him, and Satan will be bound in the abyss. At the end of the thousand years, Satan will be released briefly, defeated again, and cast into the lake of fire.

This interpretation stands in contrast to amillennial (no literal thousand years) and postmillennial (Christ returns after the millennium) views. The AG's premillennialism has been shaped by dispensational theology inherited from figures like John Darby and C.I. Scofield. For the AG, the plain reading of Revelation 20:1-6 supports a literal, future thousand-year reign of Christ on the earth.
