Eternal life with God for the saved; resurrection and glorification in his presence

The UPCI affirms that those who are saved through the new birth will enjoy eternal life in the presence of God. Heaven is a real, glorious, and eternal state of blessedness — the fulfillment of God's redemptive purpose for humanity. The UPCI's Articles of Faith affirm 'eternal life' as the destiny of the saved, understood as a real, ongoing, conscious existence with God.

The bodily resurrection of believers is affirmed: at Christ's return, believers will be transformed and caught up to be with him. The glorified body — incorruptible and immortal — is the form in which the redeemed will enjoy eternal life. This eternal state includes the final defeat of sin, death, and all opposition to God.

The prospect of eternal life with God motivates the UPCI's emphasis on holy living and its strict standards of holiness. Because believers are heirs of eternal glory, their conduct in this life should reflect the holiness of the God they will dwell with forever. The UPCI regards its holiness standards not as legalism but as an appropriate response to the grace of God who has called believers to an eternal inheritance.
