Hebrews 1:8 does not teach Christ is God; Christ is exalted Son

The LDS church interprets Hebrews 1:8 differently from traditional Trinitarian theology. While the passage addresses Christ honorifically and affirms his exalted status, LDS theology denies that it teaches Christ is ontologically identical with God the Father. Rather, Christ is the exalted Son of God, God's firstborn in the pre-mortal existence, elevated to divine status but distinct from the Father.

LDS doctrine teaches that God the Father alone is God in the ultimate sense. Christ is subordinate to the Father, though possessing great authority and divine attributes. The 'throne' language is understood as affirming Christ's royal authority and dominion, not his ontological equality with God. The LDS understanding of the Godhead maintains the distinction and separate personhood of Father and Son while affirming both are God-like beings.
