Continuing revelation is one of the most fundamental LDS doctrines. God has not ceased to speak; he communicates today through the living prophet (President of the Church), who may receive revelation for the whole church, and through the Holy Ghost to individual members. This ongoing revelation can include new scriptures, policy changes, and doctrinal clarifications.

Historical examples include the Official Declaration 1 (1890, ending polygamy) and Official Declaration 2 (1978, extending priesthood to all worthy male members regardless of race) — both received as revelations by the prophet. Article of Faith 9 states: 'We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.' This expectation of ongoing revelation is non-negotiable in LDS theology.
