Longer ending canonical; part of authentic Gospel text
The Maronite Catholic Church receives Mark 16:9-20 (the longer ending) as part of the canonical Gospel of Mark and canonical Scripture. While Catholic biblical scholarship is aware of textual-critical debates, the Church received this text as canonical in the Council of Trent (1546). The longer ending is used in Maronite liturgy and catechesis and is treated as authoritative Scripture.
In Maronite tradition and Catholic teaching, Mark 16:9-20 is understood as part of the authentic Gospel text as the church has received and preserved it. The passage includes the appearances of the risen Christ and the command to preach the Gospel to all nations, which is foundational to the church's missionary mandate. The Maronite Synod (1736) received the longer ending as canonical.
