God created all things; Genesis account received as revelation

Jehovah's Witnesses affirm the reading of Genesis 1:1-2 that God (Jehovah) created all things in the beginning. The passage establishes Jehovah's creative power and sovereignty. Witnesses receive Genesis as divinely inspired revelation and do not attempt to reconcile it with evolutionary theories. The focus is on theological truth: Jehovah alone is the creator and sustainer of all existence.

Creation theology establishes God's right to rule and humans' obligation to obey him. The creation account grounds Witnesses' understanding that the earth was made for human habitation and will become a paradise when God's kingdom is fully established. Creation reveals God's power, wisdom, and benevolence toward humanity.
