Christ's death is ransom for human sin; I Timothy 2:5-6 affirmed
Iglesia ni Cristo affirms that Jesus Christ's death is a ransom payment for human sin. His shed blood is the price paid to redeem humanity from sin and death. This doctrine is grounded in the New Testament language of ransom (Greek: lutron) and is understood as the substitutionary death of Christ for sinners. Through his death, Christ accomplished redemption and made salvation possible for all who believe in him and enter the true Church (INC).
The atonement is understood in terms of payment or satisfaction rather than in terms of cosmic transformation or participation in Christ's death and resurrection (as in more mystical theologies). The ransom price of Christ's blood is effective and complete, but its application to individuals is conditioned upon their faith, baptism into INC, and obedience to the Church. The atonement demonstrates Christ's love and the seriousness of sin, while affirming that redemption comes only through him.
