Free Will Baptists affirm the classical theistic understanding of God. God is eternal, infinite, omnipotent (all-powerful), omniscient (all-knowing), omnipresent (everywhere), and absolutely holy and just. God is the Creator and Sustainer of all things and is not dependent on creation for existence. God is a personal Being who knows, loves, and acts in history, bringing about redemption and judgment.

A distinctive emphasis in Free Will Baptist theology is the balance between God's justice and God's love. While God is absolutely just and holy, demanding perfect obedience and punishing sin, God is equally characterized by love, mercy, and compassion. This balance shapes the Free Will Baptist understanding of salvation: God's justice requires a response to sin, but God's love provides grace and the opportunity for all to respond to the gospel through prevenient grace.

Free Will Baptists affirm God's foreknowledge of future events while maintaining that this foreknowledge does not determine human choices. God knows what will happen because God's knowledge is perfect, but this does not make events necessary or remove human responsibility. This position (often called 'theological compatibilism' or 'middle knowledge' in Free Will Baptist circles) seeks to preserve both divine omniscience and human free will.
