The EFCA Statement of Faith explicitly affirms the virgin birth: Jesus Christ 'was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.' This historical miracle is treated as essential to Christological orthodoxy and is a non-negotiable element of the EFCA's doctrinal foundation. All EFCA ministers and member churches are required to affirm it.

The virgin birth establishes both the full humanity of Jesus (born of a woman, entering the human family as a genuine human being) and the miraculous divine nature of his origin (conceived by the Holy Spirit, not by human generation). It is the mechanism by which the eternal Son of God took on human nature without ceasing to be divine.

Denial of the virgin birth is considered incompatible with EFCA membership and ministry. The EFCA was founded in part on the principle that certain doctrines — those clearly taught in Scripture and essential to the gospel — are non-negotiable and must be affirmed by everyone in the fellowship. The virgin birth is one of these non-negotiables.
