Textual questions acknowledged; longer ending accepted in practice and teaching

The Evangelical Covenant Church is aware of modern textual-critical scholarship showing that Mark 16:9-20 is absent from the earliest Greek manuscripts. However, the ECC includes these verses in its canonical Scripture and affirms their authority for doctrine and practice. The longer ending is used in ECC worship, teaching, and catechesis.

The ECC's approach reflects a broader evangelical stance: while aware of manuscript evidence, the church does not view the exclusion of these verses as necessary to orthodoxy or the integrity of the gospel. The content of these verses—including the resurrection appearances, the commissioning of the disciples, and the promise of divine power in witness—aligns with evangelical conviction and the broader NT witness.

The ECC understands its biblical canon to include these verses and treats them as authoritative Scripture. The theological content—Christ's resurrection victory, the disciples' mission, the work of the Holy Spirit in evangelism—is foundational to ECC missionary and evangelistic practice.
