Deuterocanonical books not canonical; 66-book Protestant canon affirmed

The Church of the Nazarene affirms the 66-book Protestant biblical canon (39 OT + 27 NT books) as the complete and authoritative Scripture. The deuterocanonical books are not accepted as canonical or as divinely inspired.

The Nazarene reasoning follows the principle that the canon was largely established by the early Church and that these additional books were not included in the Hebrew canon nor universally recognized by the early Christian Church. Only the 66 books are understood as Scripture, sufficient for all matters of faith and doctrine.
