Some Christian traditions (notably Jehovah's Witnesses) prohibit blood transfusions based on Old Testament regulations and Acts 15:29. The Church of the Brethren does not interpret these passages as binding prohibitions for Christians. The ceremonial laws of the Old Testament are understood to be fulfilled in Christ and not binding in the present age.

The denomination affirms medical care as a legitimate means of healing and preserves life. Blood transfusions, when medically necessary, are accepted as part of responsible health care. The decision rests with the individual patient in consultation with medical professionals.
