Virgin birth affirmed; Jesus born of Holy Spirit and Mary

Christian Science affirms the virgin birth of Jesus as a historical and spiritual fact. Jesus' birth through Mary by the action of the Holy Spirit demonstrates the supremacy of Spirit over matter and the divine origin of the Christ-idea in human form. This event shows that Jesus' soul was divine while his body was born naturally of Mary.

The virgin birth is understood as evidence that the Christ can be born anew in human consciousness when the mind is receptive to divine Truth, just as it was born uniquely in Mary.
