God created all things; creation ex nihilo; Genesis account authoritative

Southern Baptist theology affirms the doctrine of creation ex nihilo (out of nothing) as taught in Genesis 1:1-2 and as consistent with Baptist faith. The BFM2000 declares that God is the 'Creator of all things, visible and invisible.' Baptist churches vary in their interpretation of Genesis 1-2 in relation to modern science: some read Genesis literally, others harmonize it with evolutionary science, but all affirm God's creative power and role as Creator.

Creation theology is foundational to Baptist faith. God's creative work establishes His power and authority, and humanity's creation in God's image establishes human dignity and moral responsibility.
