Christ will return; the community waits with patient faithfulness

The Amish affirm the return of Christ as the culmination of history and the completion of God's purposes. However, the Amish approach to eschatology is characteristically non-speculative and non-dramatic: there is no engagement with dispensationalist timelines, no obsession with prophetic signs, and no 'rapture theology.' The focus is on faithful living in the present rather than on decoding the future.

The Amish community's patient endurance — maintaining simple, countercultural faithfulness generation after generation — is itself a form of eschatological witness: the community exists as a sign of God's Kingdom by living differently from the surrounding world.
